This 7 year old boy is a very affectionate child who enjoys getting hugs.  He attended Kindergarten during the 2007/2008 academic year and is currently in the 1st grade.  He gets along well with other children in the orphanage and loves to play.  He has a good sense of direction and has on a few occasions returned from school on his own.  He is a good eater and enjoys everything.  He can write the first letter of his name, as well as the numbers from 1 to 3.  He can find similarities in shapes, such as showing that coins look like circles.  As a young child, he had hyperactive tendencies that have decreased over the years.  Others describe him as extremely gifted in art.
Considering his life circumstance in an orphanage, this boy’s gross motor skills are well developed.  His movements are well coordinated and on track for his age.  He does have some mental and developmental delays; however, he is doing well and able to follow and effectively carry out commands.  He understands the functions of various objects, locks and unlocks doors, never confuses his right and left shoe, waters flowers and is gentle with his toys.  He likes to play by himself but also initiates games with other children.  He has a harder time initiating contact if he feels others are not paying attention.  He has a wonderfully creative imagination.  If you ask him if you can have something that belongs to him, he will give it you willingly.  He is expressive and displays emotions in an appropriate manner.
With a loving and supportive family, this boy has incredible potential.  He needs a family willing to patiently address his areas of growth and be open to using outside resources to support his development if necessary.  A family that has parented children past his age would be an ideal match.  We ask that no current children in the home be within 10 months of his age.
