Maricris was orphaned by her birth mother who died while giving birth to her due to eclampsia. The birthfather could not provide the needs of the child as Maricris has seven more siblings and the family was one of the poorest and indigent families in the locality. Maricris was born premature and was unconscious for two hours but was revived via a resuscitator. She also had intense therapy for a month. She was discharged from the hospital and was placed to temporary custodians. Under the care of the custodians, Maricris had a blood transfusion and was treated for pneumonia. Maricris was also diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy. Maricris was observed to have delays in her development. She can twist her body on both sides and turns her head towards anything that brushes her face or where the sound is. She can watch movement with her eyes and show smiles sometimes. She still cannot grasp anything with her hands and can only stretch her arms. Though with developmental delays, Maricris continues to improve as she has twice a week therapeutic session with a physical therapist. | ||
