James Matthew

Birthdate: January 10, 2004

Gender: Male

Special need(s):
Mild Delays in Hearing and Language
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

James Matthew was rescued from his custodians who allegedly neglected the child. The custodian disclosed that their former house helper left the child to them and ran away. The custodian got interested and took care of the child. The custodian however left the child to a relative to properly take care of the child. After three years, the custodian decided to get the child from her relative. James Matthew was referred to the center since the custodians have no blood relationship to the child. No relatives have visited or claimed the child.
James Matthew was observed to be never getting tired and threw tantrums when he does not get what he wants. He also had limited words and could utter two-word phrases with misarticulated words. Based on his neurodevelopmental evaluation in 2008, James Matthew’s over-all neurodevelopmental abilities using the Griffiths Mental Development Scales-Extended Revised showed average abilities in most of the domains with mild delays in the hearing and language domains. James Matthew also presented with symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattentiveness. These observations are highly suggestive of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Based on his recent occupational therapy, James Matthew has improvements in his ability to wait for turn and instructions, ability to control his temper, attention span, interaction with others, able to follow thick lines in cutting simple shapes, and is able to finish coloring within thick boundaries independently. At his age, he can do simple household chores like fixing his bed and things. Caregivers are also correcting his negative behavior acquired from the past custodians such as watching television late at night. He is not choosy with foods but is allergic to chicken and develops scabies.
