Maricar was abandoned by her birthmother. She left her to a woman and never came back thus her referral to the Children’s Center.

Upon admission, it was noted that Maricar has asymmetrical prominent left frontal forehead and was observed to have a microcephalic feature. She underwent cranial ultra-sound and had a result of normal cranial sonogram with no evident of hydrocephalus. In January 2000, Maricar was diagnosed having hypothyroidism. She was prescribed with Thyrax and was discontinued in 2002. In 2008, Maricar was diagnosed as Hepatitis B positive. It was suggested to have yearly Hepa B profile and liver function test. She was noted to be small for her age.

Maricar attends school and has good grades. She was assessed by a psychologist and her intellectual functioning and adaptive skills are within the Average range. She is slow in reading in English but quite good in Tagalog words. Maricar is shy and talk softly but speaks clearly and can communicate her wants and needs. Maricar can also attend to her personal hygiene. She has a good relationship with the other children and is not quarrelsome. When teased or bullied she easily cries but easily pacified when talked to. She always gives a sweet smile and regularly attends church service every Sunday.
