Urgent Need: Gabriel Updated August 6, 2009

Update: We have been informed by Gabriel’s placing agency that a family has been found for him. We are praising God for this answer to prayers. Please join us in continuing to pray for Gabriel, and now for his new family, too.

Gabriel was born on July 9, 2008. He was 6 pounds, 10 ounces and 20 inches long at birth. It was determined before he was born that Gabriel was going to have some serious challenges. He was diagnosed shortly after birth with schizencephaly. This is a condition in which there are abnormal clefts in the brain. The prognosis can run the gamut from extremely poor to good. The doctors did not expect Gabriel to live after he was born. Then they determined that he would never see, walk, or talk. When you see him, however, you wouldn’t know that he had any difficulties. Two doctors have stated that, seeing the MRI and then seeing Gabriel, you wouldn’t put the two together because he is not just lying around as his MRI suggests he should be. He smiles when he is talked to, and at times when you say hi, he says hi back to youmakes people do a double-take. He laughs when he is played with and enjoys being outside.

Gabriel is making steady progress in occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech. He has been in foster care since he was a week old. He has already come a long way. He sleeps through the night and is a very sweet little boy. He also has his own opinions about things and will let you know when he disagrees with you. If you would like to make a huge difference in one little person’s life, you have that opportunity now. Gabriel will need a lot of love, prayer, and work to help him overcome his challenges.
